True North Connect

Break Down Silos.
Build Cross-Functional Alignment.

A deep-dive experiential sand table on cross-department communication and collaborative breakthrough. No preset script — participants face information asymmetry, interest conflicts, and execution gaps in a turbulent market metaphor.

From island departure to rescue ship arrival over 30 days, crews earn five medals to achieve the True North Star. The course helps organizations break invisible "department walls," enabling information, resources, and capabilities to flow freely across the organization.

Course Objectives

🎯

Cross-Department Decision-Making

Strengthen orchestration and decisiveness of cross-functional leaders. Respond to information gaps, resource conflicts, and sudden problems — setting direction quickly and reducing opportunity cost from delayed decisions.

🔗

Break Communication Barriers

Address departmental self-interest, distorted information flows, and communication buck-passing. Build efficient, transparent cross-department sync mechanisms for precise information delivery.

🤝

Build Collaborative Teams

Course Outline

Module 1 · Opening

Break the Island, Collaborate to Sail

Knowledge: Stranded on a deserted island with a rescue ship on the horizon — this is not just survival, but a team expedition of challenge, exploration, and cross-functional discovery.

Module 2 · Rules Introduction

Cross-Department Consensus

Debrief: Obtain sail or compass; earn the Consensus Medal. Knowledge: Cross-functional collaboration requires early goal consensus — vision alignment, values synergy, and execution path analysis.

Module 3 · Simulation Round 1

Days 3–10: Break Information Silos

Core Goal: Break inter-department information silos; achieve instant sharing of critical business information; orchestrate resources globally under constraints; establish initial collaboration rules. Debrief: Trace root causes of information distortion and resource conflict from organizational and process perspectives; optimize cross-department communication chains. Knowledge: Dynamic resource scheduling — identify each department's core strengths and gaps; trade-offs and complementarity for 1+1>2 synergy.

Module 4 · Simulation Round 2

Days 11–20: Validate Collaboration Mechanisms

Simulation: Adjust strategy; resolve immediate conflicts and validate collaboration mechanisms under extreme conditions; experience the fragility of trust and shift from passive execution to proactive support. Debrief: Deep dive into each medal earned or missed — the key to building high-performing cross-functional teams. Knowledge: The five elements of high-performing teams — consensus, trust, collaboration, execution, renewal — and how high-frequency information sync drives performance.

Module 5 · Simulation Round 3

Days 21–30: Earn the True North Star

Simulation: Collect all five medals as milestones for complex cross-department tasks; integrate resources and break traditional departmental barriers into a unified formation. Debrief: Announce final results; analyze key decision points under pressure; extract reusable collaboration patterns from successes and failures.

Module 6 · Closing

The True North of Cross-Functional Collaboration

Review the five elements of high-performing teams: consensus, trust, collaboration, execution, renewal. Cross-department True North is not a single department's task closure — it is aligning all business units toward organizational strategy. This is the fundamental standard for measuring collaboration value.

🎖 Consensus 🎖 Trust 🎖 Collaboration 🎖 Execution 🎖 Renewal ⭐ True North Star

Organizations rarely fail because departments lack expertise. They fail because departments fail to work together.
